So, not only is Tuesday the new Monday, Wednesday appears to be the new Tuesday. Thankfully, I am able to take a break from the exciting world of Tax Time™ to bring you the update, only slightly late. (Not-thankfully, I am doing so after about 20 hours of uptime and while on serious painkillers, so if I am less coherent than usual, this would be why.)

We have an action-packed, thrill-a-minute blockbuster at the box office this week (IN A WORLD ... where [staff profile] denise likes to make stupid jokes in the weekly update introduction....) Coming soon to a theatre near you:

I've locked my old LJ posts down to private; this means everything from journal creation to April 2009. There were a lot of posts I wanted to take down because of their content (particularly everything about The Ex), but I had neither the time nor the inclination to do item-level evaluation when I made the decision to lock those posts.

I am in the process of sorting through my various imported entries (I had many accounts prior to [livejournal.com profile] sofiaviolet, going all the way back to 2002), tagging the really old stuff, and unlocking what I feel comfortable sharing. I only want to do this once, and I only want to do it in one place. I'll post again when it's done.

Off to tackle 2002.

xkcd takes on "Porn For Women."

[personal profile] lauredhel brings us a television program about accessibility inventions.

[personal profile] helens78 has noticed that Dreamwidth allows you to link to an AO3 profile by entering <user name="username" site="archiveofourown.org">. [archiveofourown.org profile] sofiaviolet, for example, although I don't have any fic to my name.

[personal profile] liv is hosting a non-fandom Dreamwidth friending meme. (Fans are not excluded from participating, but the focus is on people who are not fannish and/or who want to connect with other non-fannish Dreamwidth users. I'm going to throw my hat into the ring because, although I am in fandom, I don't actually post about it much; my fannish participation is mainly passive and tends to be in other people's journals.)

Oh god, oh god, oh god spoilers, seriously. If you're posting about things that will happen further on in The Pacific timeline & are relevant to future episodes/things that happen in the IRL story? That's still a spoiler.

C'mon, please. DDDD:

The Pacific, let me show you my thoughts on it. Not the most coherent, because I was distracted by the appalling, boring trainwreck of Q&A. )

I have written 4,000 words so far today. This makes me go \0/. Of course this also means that I have pushed aside two design projects that I'd wanted to work on today too. Which makes me go /0\. Sigh.

The worst part of Daylight Savings Time is when you lose an hour in spring like we did in the wee hours of this morning. Look, I don't have enough hours in the day to get done what I need to get done. Losing one is NOT good, dammit. I have a SCHEDULE. It must be KEPT.

And sadly I got absolutely nothing done yesterday. Suffice it to say (so that the males that read this journal don't have to flinch--don't ever say I don't think of you lot *g*) there were Female Troubles on Saturday that caused (and are still causing, dammit) Extremely Serious Pain To The Point Of Tears. All I have to say is thank God for muscle relaxers because while you still hurt, you get loopy enough not to give a damn. Pharmaceuticals for the win. (It rather reminds me of the time I was in the hospital for an open broken ankle and they put me on a morphine drip which did abso-damn-lutely nothing for the pain but made me really happy and chatty from what everyone told me later.)

ALSO. I need help from my all-knowing flist. A friend of mine who once was in HP but isn't any longer but is feeling a bit HP nostalgic is looking for Ron/Draco fics, post-Deathly Hallows, whether EWE or epilogue compliant. I haven't read Ron/Draco in yonks, so I'm not sure where to start. Anyone know of any fics that fit those requirements?

So. This should go without saying, but if anyone - and I mean anyone - spoils me for The Pacific today or for the duration of it's screening time, I will cut you. This goes for moods, subject lines and cut text too. I WILL CUT YOU.

Because seriously, I've come too far for someone to fuck it up for me now.

Anyway, how you all doin'? I'm at work and I want to put my head through my monitor already and it's not even 9am.

Dear flist, I am a lucky, lucky, DAMN LUCKY woman.

Oh, yes.

You see, last year in [insanejournal.com profile] hp_beholder, [livejournal.com profile] atdelphi wrote me this amazing Albus Severus/Viktor fic called Finding Viktor Krum which launched me into a new OTP.

This year? A wonderful, incredibly talented Anonymouse in [livejournal.com profile] hp_nextgen_fest has written me the most AWESOME Albus Severus/Viktor fic called Discombobulation.

You guys, this story is jaw-droppingly good. I'm about to go back through and reread it again just to pick up the tiny little clues and details the author wove in. It's amazing.

It's written from a 26-year-old Al's POV, and it's about him struggling with his attraction for Viktor (and there's backstory there from a few years in his past) who happens to be pulled in again as one a Commissioner in the ICW, where Al's a Junior Undersecretary in another department, but one which has to work with Viktor's department. Oh, and Viktor comes in because the previous Commissioner had been murdered. And Al discovered the body.

ALLOW ME TO PAUSE FOR A MOMENT TO GO \0/\0/\0/\0/.

It's set in Moldavia (which again, \0/), and Al's struggling with his family as well throughout the fic. And this is one of the things in which I must say the author is utterly and completely brilliant. The Potter family is not perfect here. In fact, the Potter family is as far from perfect as possible. There's an enormous amount of dysfunction, Harry and Ginny's marriage had fallen apart in the past, the kids are adrift and at a loss as to what to do with themselves. Al's thrown himself into bureaucratic work (and is the reluctant caregiver out of the siblings), and James and Lily have become wild. These are kids who grew up in the reflected celebrity spotlight of their father's, and who are fighting against their family's issues. Each of them is fucked up in a particular way, and I love that interpretation of their family.

Also, the Al/Viktor is utterly sexy and erotic and just worthy of total flailing. I kid you not. And the writing is just incredible. So evocative and so descriptive. And unbelievably imaginative.

So go read it. NOW. I don't even care if the pairing puts you off. It is that good, you guys. You cannot miss this fic. It is amazing and it will take your breath away.

Discombobulation by Anonymous

(Dear God, I need more Al/Viktor like I need to breathe.)
text: welcome to bandom - no, you're not dreaming
[personal profile] sofiaviolet
There was this fic, and I cannot remember who wrote it or what it was called.

It's Frank/Gerard. Gerard is working in the city, and there's a cute guy he sees every morning on his commute (pretty sure it's a train, not a ferry). One of the guys winds up answering a craigslist ad from the other one, and they strike up this email friendship. Gerard eventually realizes that his train buddy and email guy are the same person, and he freaks out. Frank has been doing an internship and his final project or whatever is to put together a music showcase. He invites Gerard on the train and by email. Gerard dithers a lot but finally goes, and then there is the happy ending.

????? I really want to reread this one right now. Anyone have a link, title, or author name?

So after making me endure a crankypants afternoon, God decided to send two happy-making things my way tonight.

1) I gave up gluten for Lent, with the exception of the Host every week, because I am not giving up Eucharist. However, I love bread. Femme/bread=OTP. Therefore I have been *dismayed face* for three weeks at the lack of breadage in my life. Really. It's amazing how much you crave a damn sandwich when you can't have one.

BUT. Tonight I discovered Whole Foods' gluten-free prairie bread. HOLY CRAP, that bread is heaven, particularly when you smear it with peanut butter and drizzle linden honey on top. It's about as good as their gluten-free chocolate cupcakes which are all kinds of OM NOM NOM. I am taking a sandwich to work tomorrow. The amount of glee this fills me with is probably a bit disturbing. But. Bread.

2) Johnny Weir making sex noises. You don't want to know how many times I've watched this clip. Really. You don't.

On that note, I'm going back to writing.

THIS XKCD COMIC IS AMAZING. Poor Sauron. ;______;

Also magical sluts of the forest!

Also also [livejournal.com profile] f_march_madness is down to to the top 8 round and it's two guys and six girls... what's the bet a dude still wins it? /cy-cy-cy-cynical (Hey, at least it's not Dean Winchester?)

Also also also I'm currently watching Primeval. Time travelling dinosaurs! It's crazycakes and yet it's AMAZING all at the same time.
Connor: Like evolution's just, what? Altered course?
Cutter: Glad somebody was listening. You believe me?
Connor: Alright, I'll buy it.
Cutter: I could kiss you, Connor.
Connor: ...That's really sweet, but maybe not while there's people watching.
I won't lie, this episode season is kiiind of making me ship Cutter/Connor just a teeny tiny bit. :D Oh Andrew-Lee Potts, you and your stupid, adorable Hatter-ish face. ♥ And the new PR lady needs to get herself some sensible shoes. ...Just sayin'.

ETA:

OH MY GOD THIS EPISODE HAS TINY HARRY WELSH. IN A LION SUIT. TINY HARRY WELSH AND EUGENE JACKSON IN THE SAME SHOW :D :D :D Though I am heartbroken that it looks like the power of the gappy teefs has been dental surgeried away. For shame, Rick Warden. You don't know what you've lost.
/ETA

Also also also also I have decided that the next game I get for my PS3 is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. I downloaded the demo and had about a MILLION times more fun with it than, say, with the Resident Evil 5 demo. Zombies! DDDDD: I also downloaded the demo for Fairytale Fights which is AMAZING. It's described as a "hack'n'slash platform adventure" with volumetric liquid something or other. You can ~slide through the blood! Anyway, I'm going to get Uncharted 2 (and probs FF), but ONLY once I have finished my [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti fic. JFC I haven't finished it yet, I am the WORST creature in this house and that includes my cat who KNOCKED OVER MY BIG SHINY TV ON SUNDAY.

Also also also also also I have decided that I am going to wait on reading The Pacific tie in book by Hugh Ambrose until after I have seen the show. That way I won't be spoiled on the specific things that happen to the characters and influenced by any potential, inevitable deaths.

Also also also also also also laaaastly: for people on my flist who are active on Dreamwidth, I am going to be trying that crossposting thing so if you're mainly active on DW/cutting down on LJ/etc, there is that. If you could let me know if you're mainly active on DW or LJ that would be grand too, so I can adjust my flists accordingly.

Hey, new people on my flist from the friending memes, do you have a DW account? Are you active there? My account is (ta-da!) [personal profile] renne. For which I will always mourn I can't have on LJ. Screw you, person who never ever used the account! >:/

I think there's a problem with my calendar; it keeps getting stuck back on Monday. I'm fairly certain it was just Monday yesterday ...

Still, temporal distortion aside, onwards to the weekly update.

I am oddly jonesing for some Hogwarts-era Harry/Draco fic. The only problem is that I don't read that much school fic because I tend to prefer Harry and Draco in their 20s and 30s and 40s. And I'm probably not going to have time over the next couple of days to sift through my usual recs lists to find anything. Woe. (If anyone has any suggestions/recs, I am open to them.)

Other than that, I've been in a weird funk the past few days. Spring's starting to peer around the corner and I'm getting restless. I need a road trip of some sort--Boston's starting to feel a bit claustrophobic. Or at the very least to throw the windows open, put on some music and scour everything.

The latter would probably be the more practical choice.

Damn.

Ow fuck shit my toe ow ow owwww!

I walked into a stack of books this morning as I was getting out of bed, and then I walked into a broom handle lying on the kitchen floor while I was putting away dishes. The second trauma damaged the toenail on my right fourth toe, and I bled kind of a lot. It is now very awkwardly bandaged, and I am not looking forward to class on Monday or grocery shopping on Tuesday, or any sort of room-cleaning.
